Jamaica hands Latvia 14-0 mauling in U-21 Lacrosse world Championships

Jamaica’s U-21 men’s Lacrosse team, turned heads at the Lacrosse World Championships, after a 14-0 mauling of European team Latvia in the opening fixture of the tournament in Limerick, Ireland on Thursday.

The Jamlax team who were making a historic feat after having competed at a global championship at all levels in the sport, ensured that they marked the occasion with an exclamation of a memorable result.

The Jamaicans who came to make a big impact in the tournament made their intentions known early, taking the first quarter 8-0, taking the second 3-0, which extended their lead to 11-0 at the half.

It was more reserved finish as they held to just three goals as the Latvian managed a shut out in the fourth and final quarter 0-0 as the game ended 14-0 in favor of the Caribbean team.

Joshua McLaughlin was the main man for the Jamaicans netting six times in the fixture with Tanner Simms following of his own.

The result was the biggest margin of win in the tournament thus far. The JamLax team will next face host Ireland on Saturday before tackling Germany on Sunday.   

The Lacrosse World Championships runs from August 10-20.
