Who would have thought that curling would become a national sport in Jamaica? Well, the Jamaica Olympic Association has confirmed “Curling” as one of its newest sporting disciplines.

“Curling” is a team sport in which players of two teams take turns to slide stones made of granite on a sheet of ice toward a target area (known as a House) which is segmented into four concentric circles.

It is an all-inclusive sport and is part of the Olympics and Paralympics winter sport with medal disciplines for Women, Men, Mixed Doubles, and mixed Wheelchair teams.

Jamaica has been participating in a few Curling matches ups since 2020 and has created the organization Curling Jamaica which is now affiliated with the Jamaica Olympic Association, JOA.

They have won matches against Brazil, Portugal and others.

This move with the JOA will now see Jamaica participate in regional and international curling events.

Not many plans have been revealed but they intend to do public education and player recruitment campaigns.

Meanwhile, Secretary General and CEO of the JOA, Ryan Foster says his organization will give Curling Jamaica its full support.
