GC Foster College student Kadrian Goldson won Jamaica’s first gold medal at the World University Games in Chengdu, China when he became the men’s 100 metres champion on Wednesday, clocking 10.04 seconds. He finished ahead of South Africa’s Shaun Phatutshedzo who did 10.06 seconds and China’s Guanfeng Chen who took third in 10.17 seconds.
On the women side, Jamaican Mickaellia Moodie failed to reach the final of the women’s 100m after finishing 4th in her semi-final in 11.57 seconds.
Meanwhile, in the men’s discus event, Jamaica’s representative and student at UWI Mona Kai Chang impressed with a season’s best throw of 61.82m, earning a well-deserved silver medal.
Polish athlete Oskar Stachnik sailed the discus to an impressive distance of 63 meters, securing the gold medal, while Algeria’s Oussama Khennoussi took home the bronze with a throw of 61.33.
