Attorney at law Yvgeni Sientje Henderson was part of history, as she, along with teammate Chloe R Whylie, captured the country’s first-ever international weightlifting for women on Sunday.

Henderson, who practices law in the states, captured three silver medals in the Canadian Weightlifting Invitational on Monday in Toronto, Canada.

She medaled in the Clean and Jerk, Snatch, and Deadlift events, to claim the country’s best-ever finish for women in the discipline since their initial entry into competition 40 years prior.

The attorney, who specializes in defense law, bettered her fifth-place finish at last December’s Commonwealth Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Teammate Whylie was also in a history-making mood, as she copped two bronze medals and a silver in the same event for six medals for Jamaica on the evening.

In an Instagram post, Whylie expressed gratitude about her performance after claiming a PB. It was a case of vindication for the Jamaican, after also finishing outside of the medals in Uzbekistan last year.

”My performance was an improvement on from the World Championships in December. I’m gutted that I didn’t get more in my clean and jerk BUT next time I have faith,” she expressed in her Instagram.

Well deserved commendations have poured in from all over the world and from individuals and sporting bodies. They join the cadre of Jamaican stalwarts to put the Island firmly on the map globally.
