Jamaica’s super heavyweight boxer Ricardo Brown will make his first appearance at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, while swimmer Keanan Dols will be back in the pool to continue the country’s medal hunt on Wednesday.

Brown, who punched his ticket to the Tokyo Games thanks to his ranking, will contest the super heavyweight Round of 16 against India’s Kumar Satish at 10:18 pm.

The Spanish Town native, now based in Canada, will be the first Jamaican boxer to parade his skills at the Olympic Games since the 1996 Games in Atlanta, when Tyson Gray (featherweight), light-middleweight Sean Black and middleweight Rowan Donaldson sported the black, green and gold.

Brown, 31, also known as ‘Big 12’, won bronze at the 2019 Pan American Games in Peru and is ranked at number four in the Americas in his weight class and had accumulated enough points to secure his spot at the global multi-sport showpiece.

Meanwhile, Dols makes a return to the pool for the 200-metre Individual Medley (IM). He will swim in heat one of the event scheduled for 5:54 am.

The America-based swimmer, who placed third in his heat of the 200-metre butterfly, but failed to progress, will be hoping for better fortunes on this occasion.

Jamaica is yet to win a medal outside of cycling and track and field at the Summer Olympic Games.
