Jamaica’s Badminton team was just edged for the win in their opening encounter against South Africa at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, going down 3-2 on Friday.

In a game which was pushed all the way to the fifth deciding set the Jamaicans were just out done in the ding dong battle for victory.

The team came from behind twice in an exciting series; first in the men’s singles as Samuel Rickets took that game 2-0 after the team of Joel Angus and Katherine Wynter lost in the mixed doubles for the opener.

The South Africans again took the advantage in the Women’s singles 2-0 as Johanita Scholz got the better of Jamaica’s Tahlia Richardson in that match.

The Jamaicans however rallied to level the tie again as Joel Angus returned to partner with Samuel Rickets in the Men’s doubles to restore parity in the contest. The duo claiming that game 2-0 send the fixture into a tie breaking fifth game.

The pair of Tahlia Richardson and Katherine Wynter tried well but fell short in their women’s doubles as the South African took that game 2-0 to claim the contest 3-2.
