Jamaica’s Olympic gymnast Danusia Francis, has officially called time on her professional career after announcing her retirement on Monday.
The former Olympian shared the new via her Instagram with an emotional post.
“Thank you for making me the person I am today, for my best friends, for amazing opportunities and memories I will treasure forever,” the gymnast captioned a video which she shared on her page which also included clips and photos of her gymnastics career.
Francis who competed for Jamaica in 2020 Tokyo Olympics expressed gratitude for her accomplishments in the sport in her bitter sweet good-bye message
“It hasn’t been easy but it has definitely been worth it. You have prepared me for the next chapter of my life. If I can make it to the Olympics and pull off a few skills on a torn ACL, I know I am ready for whatever life throws at me next,” Francis said.
“The time has come, I am officially retiring. I have been working hard recently on the next stage of my life, and will always remain in the sport I love in some capacity ,she added.
“I have some big goals and have a few exciting things coming very soon, which I can’t wait to share! Forever thankful and grateful ” she continued.
Francis who was only the second ever Jamaican to qualify and compete in the sport after American Born Toni-Ann Williams, put on a gutsy display of determination and resolves after competing with a Torn ACL.
The then 28-year old, learned about the severity of her injury just before qualification in Japan however decided to compete in the uneven bars in an inspiring performance which earned the respect of fans and fellow competitors watching.
