Legendary Jamaican long jumper James Beckford, is set to lead the Jamaican contingent in the World Masters Athletics Championships which runs is currently under way in Tampere, Finland.
Beckford who won Silver for the Island at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, is among the former Olympians and World championships representatives which will again dawn the Jamaican colors at a global Championship.
Among other team members who are also expected to medal or place well at the championships are; Steve Dailey in Shot Put, Winston Chambers in the 400 hurdles, Kevin Bowen for the flat 400 meters, Yohan Henry in the half lap event, and Samuel Brevet in the 100 meters.
Mr. Brevet who is also President of the Jamaica Masters Athletics Association shared that the contingent was weakened due to some of its members being unable to secure visas for the Championships in Finland.
He however expressed confidence that the travelling team will execute and represent well in their respective disciplines and make the country proud once more.
The Championship which began on June 29 runs until July 10.
