With the slew of successes in sports and music for 2023, Executive Director of the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC), Lenford Salmon says Jamaica has become a world power in culture.

Mr. Salmon added that this is being nurtured through the strength of the annual Festival of the Performing Arts Competitions in schools and the national showcase happening now at the arena.

He said that Jamaica’s cultural prowess is not by accident and is due to the nursery that “we have and have/ nurtured throughout the years.”

The Royal Palm Estate actor noted that while there may be variations of cultural competitions in other Caribbean countries, the format and level of importance of the JCDC-organised activities are unique to Jamaica and the world at large.

Jamaica is now preparing for the major celebration dubbed as the Grand Gala set for Monday, August 7 which will be observed as Independence Day.
