The Jamaica Constabulary Force, JCF, on Tuesday, reported that all major crimes continue to trend downward throughout the country.

Commissioner of Police Major General Antony Anderson gave the update and noted that, as of September 30, murders were down 12% and shootings, 9%. The incidence of rape declined by 18% and robberies, 17%.

He also reported that interpersonal conflicts account for 21 percent of the homicides recorded so far this year while gang-related violence is responsible for 66%.

Meanwhile, General Anderson said more than 500 illegal weapons have, so far, been recovered this year.

He added that 84% of murders are still committed by the use of firearms.

The Commissioner acknowledged the work of police officers who are dealing with major gang cases and those in the Divisions who are also making the effort to deal with the collective gang situation.

General Anderson said the JCF will continue to partner with critical stakeholders in the fight against crime.
