JCF set to heighten use of surveillance cameras to combat crime

Police Commissioner Major General Antony Anderson has alluded that dialogue is being had regarding the utilization of surveillance cameras as a suitable means of combatting incidents of criminality and violence across Jamaica.

Commissioner Anderson notes that the use of surveillance cameras has assisted in the apprehension of suspects linked to various criminal acts in several parishes.

“We use cameras almost routinely now, apart from Jamaica Eye, we have used people’s CCTVs to support what we’re doing. We’re taking a different approach to the whole camera thing, we’ve had discussions about how we build out these cameras in a significant way and so, more will be heard about this,.” he outlined.

He also added that the systems which complement the surveillance cameras have assisted immensely.

Furthermore, over the past few years, the police force has been using digital imagery to detect and deter criminal activity.

The programme has also aided in the arrest and arraignment of offenders
