Lionel Dahmer, the father of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, is reportedly considering legal action against Netflix regarding the release of their hit docu-series. The series which premiered in late September dubbed, Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffery Dahmer story, chronicles the murders of his infamous son.
It’s understood that Dahmer Sr, asserts that he was never contacted about the making of the series prior nor did he give permission for the use of certain content by the streaming giant which was used for the production of the smash series.
The 86-year-old’s sentiments were conveyed by his caretaker who opted to go by the pseudo-name Jeb.
Among some of the subjects which drew the ire of the senior Dahmer, was his claim of Netflix’s use tape recordings from his son’s legal team for its other Jeffrey Dahmer docuseries, Conversations with a Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes, without his consent.
The release of both series has seemingly sparked a global fascination with Jeffrey Dahmer, who was reported to have murdered 17 boys and men between 1978 and 1991.
Such was the fascination of his story by many it has inspired Halloween costumes in the US.
It’s reported that Lionel Dahmer who has been living a relatively peaceful life in the rural part of Ohio, has refused to speak since the release of the Netflix series. However, has been a “nervous wreck” since the show’s premiere as fans of his infamous son has shown up at his residence.
Dahmer’s assistant has decided to arm himself for protection given the sudden craze, the US SUN reports.
‘Jeb’ shared with the outlet that “from everything that I’ve seen and witnessed personally, Lionel was not contacted about either of these shows on Netflix.
“I’ve personally talked to a few lawyers and we’ve talked to his publisher about it too due to all the chaos that is going on and the stories we’ve seen,” the report added.
“Lionel and his power of attorney are gathering information and looking at a possible lawsuit against the production team or possibly Netflix,” adding that “There was zero care whatsoever about Lionel’s wellbeing ” it continued.
Lionel Dahmer was initially thrusted into the national spotlight following the 1991 arrest of his son for heinous murders.
He published a memoir, “A Father’s Story,” about Jeffrey Dahmer in 1994 — just months before Dahmer was bludgeoned to death in prison by fellow inmate Christopher Scarver.
The book is said to speak of his ignorance to the heinous actions of his son before his arrest.
Dahmer sr, was also ironically subject to a lawsuit by the families of two of the victims who alleged that he invaded their privacy by including them in his book.
The lawsuit, filed on March 1994, cites Wisconsin’s privacy law which requires authors and artists working for a profit to get written consent from the families before using the names or likenesses of crime victims or their relatives.
The suit contends that Lionel Dahmer did not before using the names of Richard Guerrero and David Thomas in A Father’s Story.
Jeb also shared that while not watching the show in its entirety feels that Lionel was unfairly portrayed
“Lionel was a very caring father. He was just trying to do his best in a time of uncertainty,” he told Sun.
“He thinks that none of this should have been made, all the information that needs to be public is right there in his book. Everything else is just glamorized and provides attention to details that aren’t proven fact” Jeb said
“When I asked Lionel what he wanted me to tell people, he said: ‘Everything I have to say is in my book.’ But that’s as far as he goes,” the assistant added
Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, developed by American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy, is the second-most popular Netflix show ever behind season 4 of Stranger Things.
