Deputy Speaker Juliet Holness, MP for St Andrew East Rural and wife of Prime Minister Andrew Holness, has been declared the new Speaker of Jamaica’s House of Representatives.

She was nominated by acting Leader of Government Business Delroy Chuck.

His opposition counterpart Phillip Paulwell supported the nomination.

Mrs. Holness now replaces Marisa Dalrymple-Philibert who handed in her resignation a few days ago.

It all comes in the wake of a ruling by the Integrity Commission that Dalrymple-Philibert be charged for allegedly making false statements on her statutory declarations.

Meanwhile, MP for St James Central Heroy Clarke has been confirmed as Deputy Speaker.

His nomination was supported by the Opposition.
