State entity Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) has announced that there will be an increase in the replacement of smartercards effective September 26.
This adjustment to prices ,as stated by the entity, comes amid the increase in production costs to make the cards by the entity’s international supplier.
As such, concession passengers will pay $400 up from the standard $300 while adult passengers will now pay $700 up from $500. Additionally, no fees will be attached to the new cards, however, customers are free to determine how much they wish to put on the card. The Smarter card is a convenient rechargeable system used by JUTC passengers to pay for their fares.
This slated increase comes two weeks after the company announced an increase in their charter service scheduled for September 5, following an increase in fuel and other operating costs.
In the interim, those wishing to query the increased rates may contact JUTC at 876-749-3192-9.
