The State-owned Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) has assured citizens as well as students that its fleet of buses will meet its increased demands.

This statement was made by Corporate Communications Manager Cecil Thoms, during a virtual town hall meeting meant to address the concerns surrounding the Ministry of education’s announcement that schools will resume face-to-face learning effective March 7, 2022.

Thoms shared that while some commuting delays will be expected, the company will rectify the challenges as they surface.

“We expect that there will be significant crowds and students turning up for school, so the first thing that we are using is our articulated buses, which we call the double buses which can move twice as much of the crowd compared to our regular units,” Thoms explained.

Thoms also noted that JUTC will bring back buses that have been down to increase the fleet numbers to meet the demands of commuters.

As such, Thoms is encouraging patrons to be out early to rescue seats and exercise patients with the company as the pre-requisite details are being ironed out.

Meanwhile, Thoms also noted that an additional 50 buses will be required to boost the entity’s fleet.
