Juventus is again under fire after another domestic hiccup vs Benevento yesterday. In all fairness, it was a dominant performance by Pirlo’s men from a statistical standpoint. Juventus had seven shots on target to Benevento’s 1 and 74% possession to Beneveno’s 26%. However, unfortunately for Juventus, the only numbers that matter are the number of goals scored as only this determines its standing in the table.

The only goal in the affair came from a 69th-minute screamer by Benevento striker Adolfo Gaich who capitalized on a backline blunder to find the bottom left of Szczęsny’s net. Also, while we are on the subject of numbers, yesterday’s results left Juventus in 3rd with 10 points the difference between it and Inter Milan who currently comfortably sit at the top. These 10 points not only separate Juventus from the top but they are also what separates Juventus from its 10th consecutive Seria A title.

Juventus now have only eight matches left to narrow the gap between it and Inter Milan and salvage an arguably disappointing season. This will likely prove challenging but not at all impossible considering it has world-leading goal scorer, Cristiano Ronaldo in the squad.

Speaking of Ronaldo, he especially as been the subject of much criticism as, despite his efforts, Juventus suffered an early Champions League exit a few weeks ago. He responded to his critics with a perfect hat-trick (right foot, left foot and header) but it is hardly enough to silence the critics, especially after yesterday’s results.

In any case, teams drop points all the time and the Juventus’ domestic season is still very much salvageable. Juventus is next in action on April 3rd vs Torino.
