NBA superstar Kyrie Irving has reportedly asked for a trade from the Brooklyn Nets just under a week ahead of the transfer deadline next Thursday.

ESPN reports that the request was submitted following the collapsed talks for his contract extension recently.

According to Bleacher Report, Irving’s agent and stepmother Shetellia Irving noted that she had reached out to the Nets regarding an extension.

Kyrie Irving — whose current deal with the Nets expires after this season — is eligible for a four-year contract worth as much as $200 million.

I have reached out to the Nets regarding this,” Irving told Bleacher Report.

“We have had no significant conversations to date.”

“The desire is to make Brooklyn home, with the right type of extension, which means the ball is in the Nets’ court to communicate now if their desire is the same.”

This is the latest in the sage between the franchise and the player who was suspended for eight games and forced to deliver an apology for posting what was deemed as anti-Semitic content on his page.

This also comes after the Nets halted the contract extension talks with the all-star player in the summer over his refusal to take the vaccine last season forcing him to opt into the final year agreement of his current deal.

Irving however has been a standout since his return, especially in the absence of Kevin Durant forcing him to take on the bulk of scoring responsibilities.

A reunion with former teammate Lebron James at the LA Lakers has been heavily speculated throughout the season, and with reports of his trade, it could be a strong possibility.
