Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving is expected to continue the rest of the season in Dallas following his reported trade to the Mavericks on Sunday.
Irving, who reportedly requested a trade away from the Nets last week ahead of Thursday’s deadline (February 10), was heavily linked to a reunion with former teammate Lebron James at the Lakers.
However, the Mavs seemed to have swooped in the midst of shakey Laker’s negotiations with a sweet offer of Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, and a first-round draft prospect in order to pair Irving with team star Luka Doncic.
While its deal nor the terms of the agreement have yet to be officially confirmed by either party the official destination of Irving’s new home for the foreseeable future will be revealed by this week when the transfer window closes.
Whether Irving sings for the Mavs or makes a sudden turn to the Lakers the inclusion of the eight-time all-star will significantly bolster the strength and competitiveness of the Western Conference.
Irving has averaged 27.7 points, 5.3 assists, and 5.1 rebounds per game in 40 games this season, helping the Nets to fourth in Eastern Conference with a 32-20 record.
