The early battle for the English Premier League continued Sunday as title conders Arsenal and Liverpool played to a dramatic 2-2 draw at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Both teams entered the game with various objectives, with hosts Arsenal aiming for a rebound following their shock to midweek as they tried to regain ground on the leaders, while Liverpool was aiming to return top of the table with victory.

Arsenal struck first through a striker, Bukayo Saka, who showed a bit of skill weaving through the box following a looping Ben White pass over the defence before firing into the Liverpool goal for a ninth-minute lead.

The Reds hit back nine minutes later through captain defender Virgil Van Dijk. The towering figure of Dutchman rose highest in the box to head home a glancing flick-on by Luis Diaz into the box from Trent Arnold-Alexander’s cross to make it 1-1.

The Gunners fired back before the break courtesy of a Mikel Merino header in the 42nd minute to restore their advantage.

A lead that seemed final before Mo Salah struck in the 81st minute to rescue a point for the visitors, who pressed the Gunners until the very end as the scores remained unchanged at the whistle.

The result means Liverpool remains second on 22 points, two behind Manchester City, while Arsenal, 18 points, consolidate third on goal difference over fourth-pace Aston Villa.
