World Championship Long jump finalist Carey McLeod made a solid statement in his preparation for the summer Olympics after leaping to 8.52m(+5.2) to win the Doha Diamond League on Friday.
McLeod delivered his winning jump on his penultimate effort, which was a sizeable point 16 meters ahead of second place Miltiadis Tentoglou (8.36m) after fouling his first attempt.
The distance would have been a new personal record for the Olympic medal prospect if not for the +5.2 wind read. However, it’s a steady progression for him.
It’s the second victory in four outings for McLeod, who opened with a golden performance at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston on February 4.
The other Jamaican in the event, former World Champion Tajay Gayle, was fifth with a best effort of 8.01m on his third attempt.
