Former Barcelona forward Luis Suarez is set to continue his club career in his home country Uruguay after reportedly agreeing in principle to rejoin his first club Nacional in the country’s top flight.
Reports suggest that Suarez will join his boyhood club as a free agent after his contract with La Liga team Atletico Madrid expired at the end of last season.
The 35-year-old shared the news via his Instagram said that he has “a preliminary agreement” to rejoin his first club Nacional in his native Uruguay.
“First of all I would like to say thank you for the great affection shown to me and my family these last few days,” said Suarez.
“we hope to reach the agreement we all desire”.
Suarez’s return to Nacional is expected to be until at least the start of the 2022 World Cup in November.
Approximately 20,000 Nacional fans wore Suarez masks at a recent game after they were linked with the forward.
The former Liverpool striker, made his professional debut for Nacional in 2005 at 18 2005 helping them to win the Uruguayan league title the following season.
He added that this had made it impossible “to reject the possibility of returning to play for Nacional and we have a preliminary agreement with the club”.
