President of the Medical Association of Jamaica (MAJ), Dr Brian James, has lauded the isolation protocols published by the Ministry of Health on December 31, 2021, noting that it is a very good move.
The revised isolation protocol which was recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) now sees both asymptomatic and symptomatic isolation lasting for 10 days as opposed to the previously stipulated 14 days.
In a tweet, Dr James pointed out that the isolation protocols are well received as they will reduce the strain that has been felt by both the members of the medical fraternity and patients alike brought on by the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We welcome the revised isolation protocols published by @themohwgovjm,” he said.
* Asymptomatic – 10 days isolation (reduced from 14 days)
* Symptomatic – 10 days isolation (must be 3 days asymptomatic)
* HCWs can be further reduced if neg. on Day 7
“Thank you MOHW. Pressure reduced,” Dr James concluded.
Minister of Health and Wellness Dr Tufton also noted that this quarantine period can see patients being in isolation for fewer days once they test out of quarantine with a negative PCR test.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr Jacqueline Bisasor-McKenzie, advised earlier this week that citizens should remain at home and monitor themselves if they develop mild flu-like symptoms.
