A large quantity of contraband was seized at the Greater Portmore Police station. The items seized include nine sim cards, sixteen cellular phones batteries, three earpieces, one pound of ganja and two hundred and forty cigarettes.
Police also seized three hacksaw blades, seventeen lighters, twenty-three packs of rizla, rum in plastic bags, three razor blades and one tube of bleaching cream.
Head of the St Catherine South Police, Senior Superintendent Christopher Phillips indicated that around 11:50 p.m., police personnel observed two men lurking near the station and gave chase shortly after.
Upon noticing the officers, the men fled leaving behind two bags.
SSP Phillips also noted that the items were destined for the lock up as in recent times several attempts have been made to smuggle contraband inside the facility.
As such, SSP Phillips indicated that security will be heightened and also warned that there will be restrictions on visits to the station.
In the interim, a manhunt has been launched for the suspects linked to the contraband find.
