Major gun seizure at Freeport Wharf in St James

The St James police have indicated that there has been another major gun find at the Freeport Wharf in the parish a short while ago.

The ongoing search which is being conducted by officers of the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigations Branch (C-TOC) and their US counterparts has so far yielded 60 firearms which include 55 handguns and 5 rifles.

This seizure also comes weeks after lawmen seized three high-powered rifles, two 9-millimeter handguns, and more than 100 assorted rounds were discovered within a refrigerator on Wednesday, January 18 at the Freeport Wharf.

Preliminary reports indicate that between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m., customs officers were carrying out routine checks of barrels and other freight containers at the Small Wharf when they noticed the irregularities within the freezer.

Subsequently, the Contraband Enforcement Team was called in and the ammunition was uncovered.

Further reports also alluded that the refrigerator was shipped from an address in the United States, and destined for an undisclosed location in Montego Bay.
