The founder of International Reggae Day (IRD), Andrea Davis, has announced that this year, July 1, will be celebrating under the theme “Saluting the Global Influence of 80s and 90s Dancehall: From Brukins to Bogle.”
It will be 24 hours of celebrating the culture of reggae and its influence on Jamaican music.
There will be a special tribute to Jamaican artistes, producers, and sound systems who were central to the development of rhythms and instrumentals which propelled the Dancehall phenomena.
July 1, will reflect Dancehall’s impact on genres like Hip Hop, Reggaeton, EDM, and Afrobeats.
During a meeting last Friday, with international partners, Davis said a digital campaign will be launched and supported by several events around the world promoting and showcasing the authenticity of the reggae and dancehall culture.
Additionally, IRD will honour several other individuals who have contributed tremendously to the culture globally, the names are to be announced soon.
