A man is now in police custody after he was caught stealing $3 million worth of cables belonging to telecommunications giant Flow on Hillcrest Avenue, St Andrew on Thursday morning.

Reports indicate that the police were alerted by residents who discovered the culprit removing cables from a manhole along the roadway.

Upon their arrival, lawmen held the suspect at the location and also search a truck at the scene. The search also yielded 200 meters of Flow cables valued at J$3 million.

Subsequently, the vehicle was seized, and the suspect taken into custody where he is said to be interviewed and is slated to be charged at a later date.

This is the second reported case of cable theft this year. In September, thieves stole $4.8 million worth of cables in the Duhaney Park vicinity.

It is understood that the thieves struck between Midnight and 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 6. Residents, however, alerted the police and a taxi operator was detained in connection with the theft.
