A Chinese man was reportedly sentenced to six months in jail, being accused of extortion for accepting money as compensation after catching his wife sleeping with another man.

It’s understood that the sequence of events started in March 2021, when Lu, a 33-year-old man from Shandong, eastern China, suspected his wife of cheating after noticing the length of time it took her to get ready to take their daughter to lessons.

His suspicions were confirmed after deciding to secretly follow her one evening when he reportedly caught his wife skimpily clad next to a naked man surnamed Liu in a hotel room.

According to reports, Mr Lu reacted violently toward the two in his rage, during which it’s alleged that the man offered cash as compensation for the affair. It’s understood that following much pleading, he accepted Liu’s offer of 25,000 yuan ($3,300) in a series of payments.

That transaction later became the basis of the accusation of extortion during his divorce proceedings, where Mr Lu was shocked to learn that the other man filed a complaint against him.

In November of the following year, a District Court sentenced Lu to six months behind bars for blackmailing and extorting his wife’s lover.

Following two failed appeals in March and December of 2022, he was exonerated this year after successfully having the original verdict overruled, with the judge concluding that he had not forced Liu to pay him but rather negotiated with him.
