Manchester City Captain IIkay Gundogon has reportedly completed a move to join Spanish Champions Barcelona as a free agent on Wednesday.
According to noted football Journalist Fabrizio Romano, Gundogon inked a two-year deal with Catalans which runs until 2025 and includes an option for an additional year.
The German international who captained Manchester City to their third successive English Premier League title defense last season reportedly turned down offers of a contract extension with the club.
It’s also understood that the Champions League winner also chose the La Liga kingpins over other offers from Arsenal and teams in Saudi Arabia.
The specifics of his wage package have yet to be revealed however, Gundogon has clearly bought into the vision for Barcelona manager Xavi as the club prepares its return as a European powerhouse.
The move is the biggest coup for Barca since missing out on re-signing former captain Lionel Messi.
He now joins the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Raphina, the UEFA Nations League winners Gavi and Ansu Fati at Camp Nou.
Gundogon who joined City from Bundesliga team Borussia Dortmund in 2016 was Pep Guardiola first signing since taking the reins at the Manchester club that summer.
