Man. City defender Mendy denies additional rape charge ahead of Trial

Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy, has pleaded not guilty to an additional charge of rape ahead of his trial is which set to begin on Monday.

The 28-year-old who had according to reports entered into a plea has now denied the eight counts of rape, one of sexual assault and one of attempted rape for which he is charged

In a trial which is expected to exceed three months, a Jury was also finally put together. A panel of eight men and four women were sworn in to listen and ultimately decide the fate of the player.

The offences against seven young women are alleged to have taken place at Mr Mendy’s home between October 2018 and August 2021.

The former France International, will stand trial alongside co-defendant Louis Saha Matturie, 40, who has also denied the allegations.

Matturie, has pleaded not guilty to eight counts of rape and four of sexual assault, relating to eight women, between July 2012 and August 2021. As per BBC

Potential jurors were asked to answer a number of questions before if they had any connection to any of other players who may be witnesses or could be referred to during the trial before being selected by ballot to sit on the jury.

These players included Premier League footballers Raheem Sterling, Kyle Walker, John Stones, Riyad Mahrez and Jack Grealish, who all play or have played for Manchester City.

 Mendy has made 50 Premier League appearances for Cityzens since joining from Monaco in 2017 and has played 10 internationals for France.

He has since been suspended by the club after being charged.
