Chinese authorities are reportedly investigating the death of an elderly man who died 13 days after having 23 teeth extracted and 12 implants at a dental clinic on the same day.

According to reports, Ms. Shu, daughter of the deceased filed a complaint with the Zhejiang Province Municipal Health Bureau against a local dental clinic following his untimely passing.

Authorities were presented with evidence of her father receiving the procedures in a single session, which Ms Shu claims led to his death two weeks later.

Preliminary investigations also confirmed the procedures via the patient consent form, showing 23 of his natural teeth extracted before having 12 holes drilled into his skull and mandible for the implants, local media reports.

Ms Shu shared that her father suffered unbearable pain throughout the last 13 days of his life, before suffering a fatal heart attack on August 28. Now she wants those responsible to be brought to justice.

Speaking to local media, a spokesperson for the clinic noted that the number of teeth that can be removed at once is determined by the doctor during a face-to-face consultation based on the patient’s physical condition.

“The more teeth you extract, the greater the patient’s pain response and the greater the probability of postoperative infection,” Xiang Guolin, director of the Oral Medicine Center of Wuhan Fourth Hospital, told The Paper.

An investigation has since been launched into this case, however, a representative of the Municipal Health Bureau told journalists that proving causality could be difficult, considering the time between the operations and his death.
