Manchester City triumph over Liverpool in EFL Cup fourth round

Reigning EFL Cup champion Liverpool was eliminated from the EFL Cup on Thursday after going down 3-2 to Manchester City in the competition’s fourth-round tie at the Etihad Stadium.

Goals from Erling Haaland, Riyad Mahrez, and Nathan Ake in minutes 10, 47, and 58 canceled out strikes from Mohamed Salah, and Fabio Carvalho and in the 20th and 48th minutes as the Cityzens to continue their journey into the knout stages of the tournament.

The fixture, the first major showdown following the conclusion of the World Cup in Qatar, lived up to its expectations of goals and excitement as the two juggernauts traded jabs during their growing rivalry.

The fixture which is the final match day of the Cup for the year sees fellow EPL contenders Manchester United and Newcastle United who earned 2-0 and 3-0 wins this week respectively.

Other EPL teams in the next round are Leicester City, Nottingham Forrest Southampton Wolves, and Brighton.

 Liverpool will next play Aston Villa on Monday before facing Leicester that Friday, while City is set to tackle Leeds on Wednesday and then Everton on Saturday.
