Mbappe scores twice as France dismiss Netherlands in Euro qualifiers

Kylian Mbappe scored two goals in his first game as France Captain. The 2022 World Cup finalist thrashed the Netherlands 4-0 to kick off their European Championship qualifier on a high.

Mbappe who was confirmed as Hugo Lloris’s successor on Tuesday scored France’s third and fourth goals to put the icing on a delectable performance by the french.

His goals came in the 21st and 88th minutes to seal a dominant performance by ‘Les Bles’ after vice-captain Antoine Griezeman opened the scoring after just two minutes before Defender Dayot Upamecano doubled their lead six minutes later.

Netherlands striker Memphis Depay, had the chance to earn a consolation goal deep into stoppage time but his penalty was saved.

The win marks a morale-boosting result for the new era of France’s football as they seek to build further their title-chasing pedigree under the new guard.

France now takes the early lead in Group B with a maximum of three points, while the Netherlands falls to the bottom of the table with a – 4 goal average.
