Messi lifts second major trophy with Argentina win over Italy

Argentina football legend Lionel Messi continues to cement his name football folklore after leading them to a 3-0 victory over European champions Italy to lift the Conbemol-Uefa Champions Cup.

The competition which pits the European Champions against champion of South America, saw the the South American claim football supremacy over both Confederations  

Messi who has been heavily criticized for ‘underachieving’ at the international level with Argentina, compared to his dominance at the club level ensured that the night would not be added to list critique.

The Argentina captain , played an inspirational figure in the match for the two-time World Cup winner as they comfortably dismissed Italy for victory.

While not scoring on the day, Messi played key puppeteer in the fixture, having a hand in two critical goals which ultimately decided the destination of the Cup.

The PSG froward delivered a lovely cross to Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez in the 28th minute to hand them the advantage before returning as the supplier again for the closing goal.

This time serving up a sumptuous assist to Paulo Dybala in the 93rd minute, which put the icing on a mouthwatering performance.

The triumph is the second major trophy for the Football all-time great after he won his first major trophy for his country lifting the 2021 Copa America Cup.

 Messi had previously retired from national duties mounting pressure to deliver trophies as Captain following a second consecutive loss in the COPA finals in 2016, which follows his World Cup finals loss in 2014.
