A Mississippi airport employee was arrested on Saturday after stealing an aircraft and threatening to crash it into a Mississippi Walmart.

The accused is Cory Wayne Patterson an employee of Tupelo Aviation for the last 10 years. Patterson also worked as a Lineman and was primarily responsible for refueling planes.

Chief of the Tupelo Police John Quaka indicated that the accused stole a twin engine aircraft at 5:08 a.m. then took off from the Tupelo Regional Airport in a Beechcraft King Air C90.

Quaka also revealed that shortly before 5:30 a.m., Cory called 911 responders and threatened to crash the airplane into the West Main Walmart located in Tupelo.

Following this, an evacuation order was given, and major streets were evacuated while the plane was still in the air for a period of five hours.

Further reports also indicated that lawmen and the accused reportedly made a deal to land the aircraft at Tupelo Airport, but the agreement was changed the last minute and he began traveling northwest.

However, by 9:30 a.m., the aircraft ran low on fuel and Patterson reluctantly landed the vessel in in a field several miles from Ripley, Mississippi.

Shortly after landing, Patterson was taken into custody where he faces of grand larceny and making terroristic threats.

In addition, the Federal Aviation Authority has launched an investigation into the ordeal.
