Rap/Hip-hop Legend Missy Elliott continues to pioneer achievements in her career after being presented with her honorary doctorate degree by Norfolk State University (NSU) on Saturday, to become the first hip-hop artiste to receive two honorary doctorates.
“Two-time Doctorate “Dr. Elliott” I am so Grateful🙏🏾Thank you. @Norfolkstate for having me today🙌🏾 To the Class Of 2022,” an ecstatic Dr Elliot shared via her social media on Saturday.
“May your Journey be Successful/ Fearless/ Determined to be the BEST! Behold The Green & Gold!!!!📣🔥#HBCU,” she added.
Missy whose doctoral conferring was filled with much fanfare as she also delivered the keynote speech to the estimated 400 graduates of the class of 2022.
The iconic musician also used the opportunity to donate US $20,000 dollars to the school’s welfare program the NSU foundation.
The honour comes just two years after ‘Pass the Dutch hitmaker’ was bestowed an honorary doctorate by the renowned Berkeley College of Music in 2020.
That feat was also a groundbreaking achievement as it was the first time any rapper male/female was receiving such an honor anywhere.
The 10-time Grammy winner was awarded alongside fellow Timbaland-produced hitmaker; Justin Timberlake.
Timberlake was presented with an honorary bachelor’s Degree from the revered Boston-based institution.
Missy whose career kicked off in the late 90s has been hip hop juggernaut with memorable classics such as – One Minute Man, Hot Boyz, I Can’t Stand The Rain, Pass That Dutch, and Work It to name a few, producing several multi-platinum albums and Grammy-winning projects.
