A state-of-the-art mobile police unit has been added to the St James Policing Division as part of it’s push to quell public disorder in the Montegobay space. This addition also comes part of the police’s public order reset strategy dubbed operation ‘Restore Paradise’.
Commanding officer for the division, Senior Superintendent Vernon Ellis also outlined that the unit would boost capacity in the division and also act as a force multiplier in the area.
“It will be outside there in the space; it has technical capabilities that will help law enforcement. The citizens overall need to see visibility when you go into a township, what you look for is the presence of the police. This will be moving in and around the township of Montegobay and its main purpose is to serve as a public order unit ” SSP Ellis outlined.
SSP Ellis further noted that the unit will be placed in the township as a permanent fixture and officers will be able to carry out administrative work from the mobile unit without going to the nearest police station.
“It has surveillance capabilities, it will act as a station, there will be police station by which persons can actually make a report. They’ll also be able to grant bail from the location ” he explained.
The Mobile policing unit was birthed out the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s need to utilize more technological solutions in its bid to reduce incidents of crime and their likely occurrence.
Other technology-based software tools being developed includes Jampol Stats; JCF Docs application; the QR Code; and Station Records Management System.
