Popcaan, Byron Messia, Valiant, Shenseea, Kabaka Pyramid and Destra will be vying for the Best Caribbean Music Act at the Music Of Black Origins(MOBO) Awards following their nominations on Thursday.
The six nominees were revealed via MOBO‘s social media.
The nomination is Shenseea and Popcaan’s third consecutive MOBO nod and second since the category was renamed from Best Reggae Act to its current title in 2022.
All nominees had a standout 2023 respectively which made them prime candidates for nomination.
Among standout achievements include Messia’s Billboard appearance for his hit single “Talibans” and Kabaka’s Grammy win at this year’s awards. Valiant, Shenseea and Destra also had a solid year with a handful of trending songs in 2023 respectively.
Kabaka, Messia, Valiant and Destra are all first-time nominees in the reclassified category.
The winner is set to be announced on February 7 during the event’s ceremony at the Uitlitia Arena in Sheffield, England.
Last year, Skillibeng walked away with the honour following a spectacular year that included a handful of hit international collaborations such as Whap Whap remix featuring French Montana & Fivio Foreign, “Bless Me” with Mura Masa and “Bullet Proof Skin” with Busta Rhymes.
