Jamaica’s Natoya Goule failed to replicate her form from the early rounds as she placed eighth in the women’s 800m final at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games a short while ago.
Goule, an eight-time national champion, Pan American champion and Commonwealth Games silver medallist, seemed in near-perfect form throughout the rounds and set to cop a historic medal in the two-lap event.
She was out fast and steady in the first 400m tracking in second in 57.82s but faded when the tempo increased, crossing the line in 1:58.26 minutes.
Young American sensation Athing Mu won in 1:55.21 minutes, ahead of Great Britain’s Keely Hodgkinson (1:55.88) and another American Raven Rogers (1:56.81).
