Nicki Minaj uses the iconic dancehall beat Diwali Riddim, after sampling Lumidee’s 2003 mega smash ‘Never Leave You’ for her new track set for release in March.

Minaj previewed a snippet of what seems to be behind-the-scenes footage of the music video on her Instagram on Thursday and noted that the dancehall-inspired single “Redrubydasleeze” is set for a Friday, March 3 release in the caption.

Despite the clip showing a more dancehall bashment feel, the Starships hitmaker confirmed that the video was indeed shot on location in Trinidad while responding to a comment about the locale.

The rapper who has been heavily involved in collaborations with Caribbean artistes recently such as Skeng, Machel Montano, and Destra, also shared her intention to travel to Jamaica for its Carnival as she reconnects more with her Caribbean heritage.

Lumidee herself gave her public approval for the effort by commenting on the post.

While it has not been confirmed if dancehall star Skeng Don will be featured on this track, it would not be farfetched to expect a cameo appearance in the video by the ‘ratty gang’ boss who has been part of the Minaj’s entourage during her carnival visit to the twin-island republic.

An idea that was strengthened after she gave a shout-out to the deejay “for making that lil vid that we shot last night in TRINI!!!!” in one of her later posts.

‘Never Leave You’ which was released in 2003 was part of several smash releases from the Steven “Lenky” Marsden-produced dancehall beat and is to this date arguably the most commercially successful and globally recognized instrumentals from the genre.
