Shock, grief and disdain continue to grip Nigeria’s social media space following the discovery of a woman’s head and the arrest of a Gospel singer allegedly connected to her death.

According to reports, Abuja-based gospel singer Oluwatimileyin Ajayi was taken into custody after being apprehended with what appeared to be the severed head of a woman who is said to have been his girlfriend.

Several Nigerians flocked to social media in outrage at the gruesome act following the circulation of a video of the dismembered body part along with Ajay near a church.

It’s further alleged that he had been carrying the head in a bag, which attracted the attention of other people, who then accosted him before the arrival of police, as per BBC Africa.

“The suspect was found with a fresh human head, and when we got to the scene, we rescued him from being mobbed,” Nasarawa police spokesman Ramhan Nansel was quoted by the Punch news website as saying.

The deceased was identified as a member of the National Youth Service Corps who was serving in the federal capital, Abuja BBC reports.

A friend of the slain woman dismissed the reports of any romantic involvement between her and the suspect while commenting on her character when speaking to the media.

“Nobody deserves to die this way. Even if she was his girlfriend, she didn’t deserve to die this way,”

The investigation is still ongoing.
