The former American Football player OJ Simpson, who was convicted for robbery in a 2007 Las Vegas incident, has been freed early from his parole for good behaviour.

Simpson, who is now 74-years-old, was convicted in 2008 for leading five men, two of them armed, into a Las Vegas hotel a year earlier to confront two sports collectible dealers. The former NFL megastar had claimed at the time that he was trying to retrieve items that had been stolen from him. However, he was sentenced to up to 33 years in prison.

Despite being renowned for his athletic prowess and being inducted in the NFL Hall of Fame, the American is more infamously remembered for his murder trial for the death of his estranged wife and her alleged lover Ralph Goldman.

“Mr Simpson is a completely free man now,” his lawyer, Malcolm LaVergne said on Tuesday.

Simpson has refused to comment on his parole release.
