Prime Minister Andrew Holness on Thursday told journalists that the government has decided to conduct a massive overhaul of the Programme of Advancement Through Health and Education (PATH) to ensure the beneficiary identification system is far more targeted than it is now.

The Prime Minister is answering the call to restructure PATH with the aim to reach and help more householders who are in need of benefits but initially did not qualify.

It comes as the opposition spokesman on Finance Julian Robinson, during his contribution to the Budget Debate in March, pointed out that under the current targeting mechanism, some households were excluded from PATH benefits on the basis that they owned a refrigerator.

Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke, during his closing Budget Debate presentation, agreed, stating the targeting mechanism for PATH is to be reviewed and now the Prime Minister has confirmed that it is taking place.
