A police officer assigned to the Linstead Police station was shot in the face by armed assailants this afternoon.
Reports state that the unidentified Inspector accosted a man who allegedly aroused his suspicion. During the confrontation, the suspect pulled a firearm hitting the Inspector.
The inspector however managed to pull his service firearm and shot one of the gunmen. Shortly after the incident, the inspector was transported to hospital where remains in stable condition.
The incident comes days after a police officer was shot and injured during a robbery at a supermarket in St Elizabeth on Saturday September 3.
Reports indicate that around 9:00 p.m., the officer who is assigned to the St Elizabeth quick response team was on location when armed men entered held up the supermarket.
During the ordeal, the police officer was shot, and his service weapon stolen. The officer was however transported to hospital where he has since been admitted.
A manhunt has since been launched for the suspects linked to the robbery.
