The Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch (PTSEB) has announced that increased monitoring of numerous crash hotspots in St Ann will be conducted by the police amid the surge in road fatalities over the last few weeks.
Commanding Officer for the PTSEB and Assistant Commissioner of Police Gary Mckenzie outlined that most of the accidents have taken place along the stretch from Drax Hall to Discovery Bay.
As such, discussions are being had regarding the installation of features that will aid in discouraging speeding.
“We note the development that has been taking place along the stretch from Drax Hall going all the way out to Discovery Bay and we note that it requires much more officers.
We have to do something about it, and it really is something that we’re not only treating with as a law enforcement entity but also with the other authorities in terms of doing some configuration to the road network to accommodate vehicles but until that comes around, we will step up our enforcement and visibility in that area ” ACP Mckenzie noted.
Last month, four people were killed and injured following a head on collision involving two buses along the Llandovery main road.
It is understood that around 8:30 a.m., the 30-seater Coaster was travelling down a slope towards St James when the incident happened about 500 meters from the intersection with the Salem main road.
Commanding Officer for St Ann, Senior Superintendent Dwight Powell further noted that the Coaster bus driver may have just overtaken another vehicle when he lost control and the bus slammed into the 15-seater Hiace, which plies the Brown’s Town to Ocho Rios route.
