Popcaan shares ‘Greatness’ at album listening party

It was a great experience at the ‘Great is He’ album listening party for Dancehall superstar Popcaan at the Cove on Monday night, as a select number of fans, friends, and fraternity colleagues were treated to an exclusive first listen to his latest project.    

The star-studded event which provided a more intimate atmosphere for the artist and his fan base was well attended with great anticipation for the new content.

The likes of Potoje, Kabaka Pyramid, Chi Chi Ching, and Cecile, among a host of personalities and media all congregated to be part of the exciting moment.

Such expectations were exceeded expectations as all in attendance were not only treated to current and previous from the Unruly such as Next to Me featuring Toni-Ann Sigh and Skeleton Cartier but were supplied with thought-provoking unreleased tracks featuring Burna Boy and Chronic Law.

The collaborations were among several tracks off the album that compelled the disk jock to pull up and replay the records much to the approval of the invited patrons on hand.

If one was to use the crowd response as a litmus test to gauge possible hits and misses by all accounts- Great is He was given resounding thumbs up of approval with fans and neutrals seemingly identifying their early favorites.

Unreleased tracks such as New Benz, Set it, and Wish no bad are among the few fans have expressed have left a resounding mark of anticipation for the album’s drop.   

While fans cheered to their favorite tracks industry celebrities also toasted Unruly boss’s delivery of what is already being credited as a potential classic album.

Fellow acts such as Chronic Law, Skillibeng, and Tessellated also made guest appearances at listening and expressed equal delight in the venue’s setup, the atmosphere, and of course the musical artistry on show on the OVO-signed act.

The man of the moment Popcaan, while not personally performing on the evening was no less as entertaining; reveling, and sharing the excitement of the album with his patrons.

Speaking the briefly about the purpose of the album he shared that Great is he was about moving the music [dancehall] forward “this is about moving Dancehall music forward, that is what I’d this album for” Popcaan stated.

 He also urged Jamaicans to push not only his music but the genre generally forward.

“So I would like my people to push the music forward not just Popcaan music but Dancehall and Reggae music on a whole,” the Inviolable deejay shared stressing the importance of local support in the elevation of the genre.

 The ‘Toni-Ann Singh’ hitmaker also stopped to take pictures before leaving. The inspiration behind the smash- the former Miss World herself, also paused her departure to oblige photos ops to conclude a successful launch.

Great Is He is set for an official release on January 27 on all streaming platforms.
