The return of Lionel Messi to his old stomping ground, Barcelona, has picked up renewed steam following reports from the club’s vice president Rafael Yuste.

The Vice President shared that Barca and Messi have conversed in recent times about the possibility of a return to the club, BBC reports.

Messi who is  Barcelona’s all-time top scorer with 672 goals in 778 games, left the Spanish club to Join French champs PSG in 2021 due to Barca’s financial fallout following the pandemic.

“I participated in the negotiations which unfortunately did not lead to a certain result. I’ve always had this thorn in my side that Leo couldn’t continue at our club. Messi knows how much we appreciate him. I would love for him to come back. We’re in contact, of course, with them,” said Yuste

The report comes as the club legend enters the final three months of his current deal at PSG.

Noted football Journalist Fabrizio Romano, also reported the club’s steady interest in reinstating their iconic talisman.

Although being offered a contract extension and have already expressed a strong interest in remaining in Paris following his World Cup success, he has yet to sign a new deal.

Messi, who recently scored his 100th international goal for Argentina, has been in superb form for both club and country this season, lifting FIFA’s best player of the year award for 2022, in addition to the World Cup.
