Member of the British Royal Family Prince Andrew has been named in a sexual assault lawsuit by Virginia Giuffre.
According to the suit, Miss Giuffre, 38, states that she was coerced into intercourse by the Royal and his friend, former film executive producer Harvey Epstein.
Giuffre, who also goes by, Virginia Roberts, filed the suit against Prince Andrew in New York in 2021. She claimed that Andrew forced her into the acts at the London home of Ghislaine Maxwell, a British socialite, and Epstein’s longtime associate and at properties owned by Epstein.
The alleged incident was reported to have taken place in 1998 when she was 15-years-old.
Epstein, 66, who was convicted of sex trafficking in 2020 died by suicide while awaiting sentencing in his jail cell.
On Tuesday, Prince Andrew’s legal team filed a request to the US federal court to have the case dismissed citing it baseless in nature.
They’ve referred to a now-public settlement between Giuffre and Epstein which included a clause that prevents her from suing anyone else with a possible connection to the case.
The settlement agreement said “Any other person or entity who could have been included as a potential defendant from all, and all manner of, action and actions of Virginia Roberts” was released from liability.
While it remains unclear whether or if Giuffre’s suit retains merit of the previous settlement case, it will definitely be a subject of close scrutiny given its Royal profile and its devious connection.
