Paris Saint Germaine(PSG) keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and his partner were reportedly attacked and robbed at their home in Paris.
According to reports, the couple was targeted by several people and tied up at their flat in the eighth district in the center of the capital, police sources have told French media.
It’s further reported that they managed an escape to a nearby hotel, after which an alarm was raised by the staff and the couple was taken to hospital.
“An investigation has been opened on charges of armed robbery in an organised gang and aggravated violence following the events that took place overnight at Mr. Donnarumma’s place,” said a spokesperson for the Paris prosecutor’s office.
Unconfirmed reports on the news site Actu17 said the attackers made off with jewellery, watches, and luxury leather goods totaling up to €500,000.
It’s understood that the footballer sustained minor injuries while his partner, model Alessia Elefante, was unharmed, according to Agence France Presse.
In a statement, his agent said Donnarumma, and his partner “are in shock at what happened but doing well under the terrible circumstances. Both are assisting the police with their enquiries”.
The prosecutor’s office said France’s Special BRB police unit targeting armed robbery and burglaries had begun an investigation.
The Italy international is the latest PSG footballer to be targeted by robbers.
Last January, two men were given jail terms for a robbery in March 2021 at the home of Brazil footballer Marquinhos in Yvelines to the west of Paris – BBC reports.
The defender was playing at the time of the incident however, his father who was in the house along with his two teenage daughters was hit in the face and ribs in the attack.
The home of club-mate Angel Di Maria was also robbed on the same day.
