Real Madrid claims first trophy of the season with Super Cup win

La Liga champions Real Madrid, have already begun to populate their trophy cabinet for the 2023/24 season after beating German team Eintracht Frankfurt in the Super Cup final on Wednesday.

The Super cup trophy is contested between the winners of the Champions League and Europa Champions.

Goals from Austria International David Alaba and France forward Karim Benzema ensured that the European giant continued their trophy haul from last season.

Alaba got things for the Spanish team after opening off an assist by winger Casemiro in the 37th minute. The former Bayern Munich star who terrorized Frankfurt during his time in the Bundesliga handed out the same treat in Madrid Jersey to hand them the early advantage.

An advantage which was doubled by their talisman Benzema in minute 65. The Frenchman who was Europe’s most lethal striker last season, registering 44 goals in all competitions kicked off his tally with another crucial striker to deliver yet another piece of silverware to the Bernabéu

Benzema’s goal came courtesy of strike partner Vinícius Júnior as one of Europe’s deadliest duos continued their championship winning link ups, to re affirm Los Blancos’ intention of football dominance this season.

Madrid is set to start La Liga season on Sunday against Almeria Stadium ‘Estadio de los Juegos.
