National distance runner Adelle Tracey has been barred from competing for Jamaica at the Commonwealth Games, in Birmingham England following a drawn out bureaucratic process to recognize her switch of allegiance from England to Jamaica.

The 29-year-old, who ran for Britain at World and European Championships, swapped allegiances in June.

She was granted the green light by World Athletics to compete for Jamaica at the just concluded at the World Championships in July, in the semi’s for both the 800m and 1500m.

However, the American-born runner seemed to have hit a snag in ratification to compete at the games which is ironically being hosted by the country she previously represented.

Tracey shared the dispaitnment via her Instagram page

“For reason’s out of my control, I sadly won’t be competing at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham next week 💔

This was a major goal for me this summer, having qualified and been selected for these games, I am disappointed by the reality of not being able to see my potential at what would have been my second Commonwealth Games.

Thankfully my body is healthy and ready to go again so I’ll be turning my sights to other opportunities this summer, using the momentum I’ve gained to make the most of the hard work I’ve put in.

Wishing the all best to my teammates and friends who are be competing at the games! 🆙️⏭️” the post read.

“It’s a real shame, I was very much looking forward to that atmosphere,” Tracey shared during an interview with the BBC.

“I was getting emails telling me to download the app for the athletes’ village, I had been selected by Jamaica, they had forwarded my information, but I am not on the start list “she added

“We have chased endlessly and made sure that everyone had the right information, it was just a case of, for the Games, it was a different protocol ” she closed.

Despite the disappointment she will now turn her attention to a Diamond League event in Poland on the on the August 6, the same date women’s 800m finals where she was favored to be among the medal contenders.
